The life you want isn’t built in a single breakthrough. It’s built one promise to yourself at a time allowing the small wins to rebuild trust.
We often underestimate the power of small wins.
In a world that celebrates massive achievements, overnight success stories, and life-changing breakthroughs, it’s easy to overlook the small things.
The truth is, most meaningful change doesn’t happen all at once.
It happens quietly.
It happens consistently.
And it often starts with something so small that nobody else notices.
A walk around the block.
Making the bed.
Drinking more water.
Making a phone call you’ve been avoiding.
Writing in a journal.
Getting out of bed when everything feels heavy.
To the outside world, these actions may seem insignificant.
But when you’re rebuilding your life, they’re anything but.
They’re evidence.
Evidence that you’re still moving.
Evidence that you’re still trying.
Evidence that you’re becoming someone you can trust again.
For many years I believed confidence came first.
I thought people took action because they felt confident.
What I’ve come to understand is that confidence is often the result of action, not the cause of it.
You don’t become confident and then take action.
More often, you take action and confidence follows.
The same is true for self-trust.
Many people tell me they want to trust themselves more.
They want to feel stronger.
More certain.
More capable.
More resilient.
What they often don’t realise is that self-trust isn’t something you find.
It’s something you build.
And like anything that is built, it happens one brick at a time.
One promise kept.
One commitment honoured.
One action completed.
One small win.
Over time, those small wins accumulate.
Not only do they create momentum, they create proof.
Proof that you can rely on yourself.
Proof that you can do difficult things.
Proof that progress is possible.
This is particularly important during periods of transition.
When life changes unexpectedly, it’s easy to become focused on everything that feels uncertain.
The future feels unclear.
The path ahead feels unfamiliar.
The destination may even feel impossible.
In those moments, we often make the mistake of focusing on the entire staircase instead of the next step.
We ask ourselves:
-
- How will I get through this?
-
- What if things don’t work out?
-
- What if I fail?
-
- What if I never feel better?
Those questions keep us stuck.
A better question is:
What’s the next step?
Not the next ten steps.
Not the entire plan.
Just the next step.
Because action creates momentum.
Momentum creates confidence.
Confidence strengthens self-trust.
And self-trust changes everything.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that healing isn’t always obvious.
Sometimes you’re making progress long before you feel like you’re making progress.
Sometimes the win isn’t that you feel amazing.
Sometimes the win is that you got up anyway.
Sometimes the win is that you rested when your body needed rest.
Sometimes the win is that you set a boundary.
Sometimes the win is that you asked for help.
Sometimes the win is that you chose not to repeat the story that has been keeping you stuck.
Every one of those moments matters.
Not because they solve everything overnight.
But because they help you build a stronger relationship with yourself.
The relationship we have with ourselves is often overlooked.
Yet it influences everything.
Our decisions.
Our confidence.
Our boundaries.
Our relationships.
Our ability to move forward.
When that relationship has been damaged through disappointment, setbacks, loss, or difficult life experiences, rebuilding it requires patience.
It requires consistency.
And it requires a willingness to celebrate progress that nobody else may see.
That’s why I encourage people to stop waiting for the breakthrough.
Stop waiting for the perfect moment.
Stop waiting until you feel ready.
Start looking for the small wins.
Because small wins are not small.
They are the building blocks of resilience.
They are the evidence that change is happening.
They are the moments that slowly teach you:
I can trust myself.
And when you begin to trust yourself again, everything starts to change.
If you’re currently navigating a period of change, uncertainty or self-discovery, start small.
Choose one action.
One commitment.
One promise to yourself.
Then keep it.
Because every small win is a vote for the person you are becoming.
And those votes add up.
Much faster than you think.
