Are You Coachable? Design Your Future Chapters
Let’s talk about something that separates high achievers from high potential: Are you coachable?
Let’s cut straight to it.
If you’re not coachable, you’re not ready for the life you say you want. And that’s not a judgment it’s a truth that every growth-driven individual must eventually face.
Whether you’re building a business, leading a team, reinventing your life, or finally chasing that dream that’s been sitting on your heart for years there’s one question that will determine whether you grow or stay stuck:
👉 Are you coachable?
This isn’t just a buzzword. It’s a mindset. A habit. A decision.
And it’s the hidden lever behind every major transformation I’ve witnessed not just in my own life, but in the lives of countless people I’ve mentored and worked alongside.
So if you’re ready to shift gears and level up… let’s go there.
Why Asking “Are You Coachable?” Is the Key to Growth
Success isn’t a solo sport.
Even the best athletes have coaches. The most respected leaders? Mentors. The most successful entrepreneurs? Advisors.
The difference between staying average and becoming exceptional is simple: the willingness to be coached.
Here’s why being coachable matters more than strategy, talent, or even experience:
You don’t know what you don’t know.
Blind spots keep you stuck in patterns. A great coach sees what you can’t and calls it out with love and clarity.Information isn’t transformation.
Reading books, listening to podcasts, scrolling motivational posts… that’s nice. But application is where the change happens and that’s what a coach helps you do.Your ego is not your edge.
The minute you think you’ve got it all figured out, you block the exact insight that could shift everything. Coachable people know how to receive not just react.Speed matters.
A coach collapses time. What takes most people five years can take you one when you’re aligned with the right guidance.
So ask yourself right now: Are you coachable enough to let someone challenge your perspective?
What Does “Are You Coachable?” Really Mean?
Being coachable isn’t about being a “yes” person.
It’s not about blindly following advice.
And it’s definitely not about outsourcing your decisions.
Being coachable means:
📅 You’re open to being stretched beyond your comfort zone
📅 You’re willing to be wrong so you can grow
📅 You seek feedback not just validation
📅 You implement instead of intellectualizing
📅 You show up fully, not just when it’s convenient
📅 You own your outcomes without blame
Learning how to be coachable is one of the most underestimated success habits of leaders who embody transformation. Coachable people understand this simple truth:
“Growth is a decision. Not a feeling.”
They don’t wait until it’s easy or perfect or fully mapped out.
They act. They listen. They adjust.
And that is what sets them apart.
How to Be Coachable and Build a Success Mindset
Saying “I’m coachable” and actually being coachable are two very different things.
I’ve worked with clients who say all the right things in a discovery call but crumble the moment they’re asked to do something outside their comfort zone. I’ve also worked with people who didn’t say much at all but their commitment spoke volumes.
Coachability is a muscle. You build it through humility, trust, and implementation.
Here’s how to strengthen it:
1. Check Your Ego at the Door
Your ego is not your enemy but it can sabotage your elevation.
Being coachable means acknowledging that you don’t have all the answers yet. If your first instinct is to defend yourself when you receive feedback, that’s your ego protecting you from growth.
👉 Instead of saying:
“I already tried that.”
“That doesn’t work for me.”
“I know that already.”
Say this instead:
“Tell me more.”
“What might I be missing?”
“How can I do it differently this time?”
Coachable clients lean in. Defended clients stay stuck.
2. Ask Better Questions
Surface-level questions lead to surface-level results.
If you’re constantly asking:
“Am I doing this right?”
“Is this good enough?”
“What should I do next?”
You’re still seeking validation, not transformation.
Coachable people ask powerful, open-ended questions that shift their perspective:
“What belief is keeping me stuck here?”
“Where am I avoiding responsibility?”
“How would my higher self approach this?”
3. Stop Cherry-Picking Advice
If you’re only implementing the advice that feels comfortable or convenient, you’re not growing. You’re curating a highlight reel of what feels safe.
Safety rarely builds empires.
Being coachable means doing the hard things especially when they challenge your old identity.
4. Commit to the Process (Not the Outcome)
Transformation isn’t a single “aha” moment. It’s daily work. Consistency. Showing up even when you feel tired, triggered, or unsure.
Coachable people don’t ghost their coach when it feels uncomfortable they lean in.
They rewatch replays, ask clarifying questions, do the journaling prompts, and show up consistently.
Because they understand:
The magic doesn’t happen when everything’s easy. It happens when you don’t quit.
5. Track Your Resistance
Your resistance is your teacher.
Ask yourself:
“What tasks do I keep putting off and why?”
“What feedback triggered me, and what’s underneath that reaction?”
Resistance is rarely random. It’s pointing directly at the next layer of growth.
Coachable people lean into that discomfort instead of avoiding it.
Bonus: Practice Active Receiving
Being coachable means learning how to receive praise, feedback, direction, truth.
Instead of deflecting or minimizing, coachable people pause, breathe, and say:
“Thank you for that insight.”
“I hadn’t seen it that way before.”
“I needed to hear that.”
This rewires the brain for growth and expands your ability to lead.
When Do You Need a Coach the Most?
Here’s the kicker: you don’t just need a coach when things are falling apart.
You need one when things are about to change for the better.
Most people wait until they’ve hit rock bottom. Coachable people? They invest before the breakdown.
That decision to lean in before the crisis is the hallmark of every growth-minded, coachable leader.
So ask yourself again: Are you coachable right now, in this season of your life?
Why I Only Work With Coachable People
Here’s the truth: I don’t waste time trying to convince someone of their potential.
I work with the willing.
Not the curious.
Not the complainers.
Not the ones who want change but aren’t ready to change.
Why? Because coachability is the one thing I can’t teach. It’s a choice you have to make.
When someone comes ready to:
Take radical ownership of their results
Receive feedback without flinching
Invest in themselves like they’re worth it
Show up no matter what’s going on around them
That’s when transformation begins.
Still Wondering: Are You Coachable?
Ask yourself:
🌀 Do I believe there’s more available to me than what I’m currently living?
🌀 Am I willing to do something different to create something better?
🌀 When someone gives me feedback, do I get curious or get triggered?
🌀 Do I prioritize comfort, or growth?
🌀 Am I ready to be led by someone who’s already walked the path I’m heading down?
If your answer is yes you’re probably coachable. If not, this is your invitation to rise.
